This is a cry for help entry on behalf of Genz. I’ve seen how my millennials, struggle with understanding Genz slang, sometimes, we murder it or make an outright fool of ourselves.

My Twitter feed is filled with so many clueless millennials confused about GenZ slang, the same way their parents were discombobulated when they ever mentioned their teenage slang. I know you want us to know you are old but, you are not that old! and truly I’m tired of seeing how these beautiful complicated minds struggle to explain to you how or why they came up with their slang. Considering we don’t give them enough credit for having highly universal slang. Ours were just a mesh of pidgin words. But… I digress.

I am here to help you find similar words you are probably used to and importantly, give you the correct meaning because the world is moving, and as a 30+ advocate, I can’t let you slack.

“It’s giving”: remember when you often shouted mad o! for every little statement in excitement or shock? These smart guys found a nicer way to say it without shouting. Its giving means you are emitting a particular vibe.

“Sus” how haven’t you been able to figure this means suspect, or the person is acting in a suspicious way?

Iykyk: one thing about Genz, is they know how to abbreviate. Millennials practiced shorthand, hence you’ll see words like: “Tnks 10qu,k,gud morn”, etc(so happy that era is over). Genzs do not have the time for that they pick the first letters and it works so well. (If you know you know)

Purr: If you paid attention in animal science class, you’d have heard that cats and elephants purr. They purr as a sign of having a good time. It means the same thing that the vibe is great.

Dey play: means you are not serious

JSYK: Just so you know, they took out the first letters as I told you earlier.

Ngl: I’m not gonna lie, I just figure this was what it meant

Irl: You mean you didn’t know this meant in real life? Wow!

Bet: means yes or an affirmation to whatever you said. I can’t recall what you all said but my cousins and I would often say “ I grab or copy like copy and paste”

Big yikes: something is bad but not too bad

FGS: for God’s sake know this one

Grwm: vloggers have choked us with this idea of get ready with me, the problem is, I don’t really want to get ready with you, I just want to drink water and mind my business. Ok?

You would say someone is “on fleek” and they’ll say someone’s slaying.

cap and no cap is getting cliche, they barely say it anymore. it’s either facts, valid, or

Do you have any I forgot to mention or you are still confused about? Add it in the comments.
