Unpopular Opinion. Christmas is overrated. All thanks to capitalism.

I’m not a fan of the Christmas razmataz but beneath my angst for the culture of Christmas, I always wanted Christmas only found in Hollywood films. The Christmas where boy meets girl and they kiss under the mistletoe.

Mistletoe? Who dash Naija people? You can’t even kiss under a mango tree in peace in this part of the world. Our Christmas trees are always store-bought ones. No point looking for what cannot be found.

Do you know what they say about dreams coming true? Yea, I don’t know either but this mundane dream came true when I met A.D.

Just reminiscing about those moments brings smiles to my face. We had met on the most popular dating app-Instagram. As a shoe lover, I had made a comment on someone’s post about the really lovely creps and from the blues or shall I call it cupid was on active duty on this blissful day. He liked my comment, followed my page, liked a dozen of my pictures and as a curious babe, we stalked each other for 2 days, and became DM lovers in a week. Our first physical meeting was at the pier. The pier always had a Christmas ceremony. They had a life-size Christmas tree. It was my first time seeing a real Christmas tree and it just felt right for my mundane dream to be fulfilled.

I had my first kiss with an almost stranger under the Christmas mistletoe.
